(ENG below) “Разбавлю” свою галерею художников классиками. Сегодня — о Василии Перове. Мы с ним родились в один день (но в разные годы, конечно). Мне кажется, что каждый, говорящий на русском языке, знает как минимум его имя, а скорее всего еще одну-две картины, типа “Тройки”, “Охотников на привале” и “Проводов покойника”. Ну и наверное портрет Достоевского. А большая копия картины с рыболовом у меня в Коломне где-то валяется. Но вот в мире о Перове почти ничего не известно, кого ни спроси. В целом, это так не только с Перовым. Закрытость и замкнутость культуры на протяжении почти всего 20 века дала свои плоды.

(ENG) Diversifying my gallery with classic artists. Today, it’s about Vasily Perov. He and I were born on the same day (though in different years, of course). I believe that everyone who speaks Russian knows at least his name, and most likely one or two of his paintings, like ‘The Troika,’ ‘Hunters at Rest,’ and ‘Last Journey’ Well, and probably Dostoevsky’s portrait. I also have a large copy of the painting with Fisherman somewhere in Kolomna. But, it seems that the world hardly knows anything about Perov, no matter who you ask. In general, this is not only the case with Perov. The isolation and closeness of the culture throughout almost the entire 20th century have borne their fruits

Последние годы пишет десятками преимущественно задумчивых красивых девушек, и я еще нашел одну птичку, один кустик, и одного футболиста. Раньше было более разнообразным, но видимо опыт показал, что стога под свинцовым небом продаются хуже девушек с красными зонтиками под тем же свинцовым небом. Но как бы то ни было, работы у него прекрасные.

(ENG) In my regular column, “Fascinating Artists,” this time, I’am featuring Tony Hinchliffe. Over the recent years, he has predominantly been creating dozens of pieces portraying pensive and beautiful women. His early work was somewhat more diverse as he was obviously exploring his artistic identity. Additionally, I’ve also discovered one bird, one bush, and one footballer among his works. It seems that experience has shown that stacks under a leaden sky sell worse than girls with red umbrellas under the same leaden sky. But whatever the case may be, his works are beautiful.

(ENG below) Солнечные этюды маслом от Kin English. Хороший пример того, как надо передавать свечение красками через контраст, как используются теплые и холодные цвета, выборочный фокус. Я помню, я стоял как завороженный перед “Лунная ночь на Днепре” в “Русском музее” — полотне Архипа Куинжи, где луна написана обычной краской, но из-за того, что вокруг нее, она прямо светится с полотна. У Kin English картины обладают тем же волшебным свойством.

(ENG) Solar Etudes in Oil by Kin English. A fine example of how to convey luminescence with paint through contrast, how to play with warm and cold, with selective focus. I remember standing spellbound in front of ‘Moonlit Night on the Dnieper’ at the ‘Russian Museum’ — a canvas by Arkhip Kuindzhi, where the moon, though painted with ordinary paint, seems to radiate directly from the canvas due to its surroundings. Kin English’s paintings possess the same magical quality.

(ENG below) Еще один интересный художник, Patrick Lee. Его работы еще раз намекают на то, что фотография никогда не заменит кисть и краски. Обратите внимание, что художник часто выбирает очень сложные композиции, оригинально, как говорится, в плохом свете, но делает из этого что-то невероятное. Люблю такое. Еще я понимаю, что мне все больше нравятся работы мастихином, но ни разу я им не пробовал.

Another interesting artist is Patrick Lee. His works once again hint at the idea that photography will never replace the brush and paint. Notice how the artist often chooses very complex compositions, originally, as they say, in a bad light, but turns it into something incredible. I love that. I also understand that I’m increasingly fond of works done with a palette knife, but I’ve never tried it myself.

(ENG below) Интересный художник, Ron Francis, Австралия. Для всех его картин сложно не начать придумывать историю. Из-за этого они получаются динамичными, хотя по сути, это всего лишь остановленное время. На сайте он рассказывает, что разработал софт для работы с линейной перспективой и подготоваливает эскизы для своих работ в том числе с помощью него. Непонятно, правда, в чем изюминка того его софта. Выглядит все так, что можно что угодно использовать, но вот что не отнять, так это в способности Ron находить интересные сюжеты.

(ENG) Ron Francis, an interesting artist from Australia, has a unique talent for creating paintings that naturally inspire stories, lending a dynamic quality to his works which, at their essence, are but snapshots of time. On his website, he mentioned he developed his own software for working with linear perspective and that he was preparing sketches for his artworks utilizing this software. The specifics of what makes his software unique remain unclear (and questionable), as it seems one could use various tools for similar purposes. However, what is undeniable is Ron’s ability to find captivating narratives for his paintings.

(ENG below) Интересная художница, Izumi Kogahara. С точки зрения техники и выразительности интересная. Но вот сюжеты у нее, на мой взгляд, исключительно попсовые. Вот видимо сложно художникам совмещать талант как рисовать с талантом что рисовать.
